REYNOLDS READY TO TAKE ON PERTH SUPERSPRINT

Following a mixed weekend in Townsville, David Reynolds is eager to bounce back as the Repco Supercars Championship heads west for the Perth SuperSprint at Wanneroo Raceway this weekend.

The event will feature three races across the weekend, with teams tackling both the Dunlop Soft and Super Soft tyre compounds in what promises to be another demanding round of the championship.

Reynolds is looking forward to returning to the fast and technical 2.4km circuit, where car setup and tyre management will once again be key to a strong result.

“Looking forward to Perth this weekend for the SuperSprint races,” said Reynolds.

“There are three races, which we’ll run the soft tyre, super soft tyre and then the soft tyre again.

“The format consists of two sprint-type races on Saturday and then a longer one on Sunday, with the Top Ten Shootout. So, it’s back to that style format.”

Team 18 heads into the weekend with valuable data from last year’s event, where a significant setup change ahead of Sunday’s race transformed the performance of Reynolds’ Chevrolet Camaro.

“Last year, we didn’t have the best results during the Friday practice sessions or on Saturday. We made a fundamental change on the car prior to Sunday, and it went heaps better,” admitted Reynolds. ‘

“Hopefully we’ve learnt from that and that’s our base starting setup rolling out this weekend.”

Known for its abrasive surface and long, flowing corners, Wanneroo Raceway places a premium on tyre conservation and driver confidence, with Reynolds expecting setup to play a defining role.

“This track is quite heavy on tyres. It’s quite a short track – about 55 seconds per lap,” said Reynolds.

“The corners are really long, so you spend a lot of time in the corners. It’s only like 50 per cent wide open throttle, and so the rest of the time you’re cornering. You have to rely on the car a lot.

“It’s all about the setup of the car, so hopefully we can get that right and give it a good red-hot crack.”

Reynolds will also return to the familiar blue colours of Snowy River Caravans, with the No. 20 Camaro reverting back to its striking primary livery after carrying the special ‘Camping Under the Stars’ Indigenous design during the previous two rounds.

“It’s always great to be back in the Snowy River Caravans colours. The Indigenous livery looked fantastic over the past two rounds and received an incredible response, but it’ll be nice to have our regular blue colours back for Perth,” said Reynolds.

The Perth SuperSprint 440 gets underway with two back-to-back practice sessions on Friday afternoon. Following into Saturday with two qualifying sessions and two 120km, 50 lap sprint races. The weekend will conclude on Sunday with the Top Ten Shootout followed by the 200km feature race at 3:20pm.
