PODIUM FOR REYNOLDS IN TASMANIA

David Reynolds has claimed his first podium finish of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship season, securing second place during Saturday’s opening race at Symmons Plains Raceway in Tasmania.

The #20 Snowy River Racing Chevrolet Camaro showed strong pace from the outset, with Reynolds topping the timesheets in Friday’s opening practice session before finishing fourth in Practice 2.

That pace carried into Saturday, where Reynolds qualified fourth and fifth respectively for the weekend’s two sprint races.

Tricky damp conditions during the opening qualifying session saw Team 18 elect to run wet tyres — a decision that proved crucial when light rain returned midway through the session. Reynolds initially qualified fifth before being elevated to fourth following a post-session penalty to another competitor.

The #20 Snowy River Racing Camaro continued its strong form into the second qualifying session, with Reynolds securing fifth on the grid.

In Race 14, Reynolds capitalised on an incident between the front-runners early in the race to move into second position. Despite heavy pressure from Brodie Kostecki and Broc Feeney throughout the closing stages, Reynolds delivered a composed drive to secure his first podium result of the season and his second podium finish since joining Team 18.

Race 15 saw Reynolds again running inside the top 10 before contact with Kostecki at the Turn 4 hairpin resulted in a 15-second post-race penalty, dropping him from ninth on the road to 17th in the final classification.

“We had a great first day. That was probably the best day we’ve had all year in practice,” said Reynolds.

“Every lap I felt like we could’ve been up the front there. We rolled out of the truck with good pace and stayed on the pace — quickest in Practice 1 and then fourth in Practice 2.

“We started off Saturday strong too. We were fourth and fifth in qualifying, and our car was really fast in both the wet and the dry, which was a really good feeling.

“In the wet qualifying conditions, we were one and two at one point, and everything felt really good. Then in Race 14 I got a good start and finished second, which was unbelievable.

“There were definitely some cars that were faster than me, but I just tried to put the car in the right spots.

“Brodie and Feeney were battling pretty hard late in the race and that gave me a bit of breathing space, which helped me hold onto second. It was awesome to stand on the podium again.

“In Saturday’s last race, I was going okay, but I just got it completely wrong and hit the back of Brodie, which was a shame.”

Unfortunately, Reynolds narrowly missed out on a place in Sunday’s Top Ten Shootout after qualifying 14th for the final race of the weekend.

Sunday’s finale featured the new compulsory three-stop strategy around the tight Symmons Plains circuit. Reynolds battled throughout the 84-lap encounter, however a cross-threaded wheel nut during the final pit stop cost valuable time, ultimately leaving him 16th at the chequered flag.

“Sunday wasn’t the best day. We qualified in the middle of the pack and just didn’t quite have the pace,” Reynolds explained.

“We rolled the car out and it didn’t feel as gripped up as it had the day before, so we were on the back foot a little bit from the start.

“We just fell short of the Top Ten Shootout, which was a bit of a bummer, and in the race we battled away all day.

“After 84 laps around Symmons Plains there was a lot going on, and I got pretty dizzy by the end of it, but all in all it was still a good weekend.

“The pace we had on Friday and Saturday was awesome. Both races probably should’ve been top-five results. We practiced really well and showed strong speed all weekend.

“There’s a lot to take away from the weekend, which is good.

“I’m looking forward to Darwin now. It’s such a great place to go racing. Every time you go there it feels like you’re on holiday, even though you’re still there for work. I can’t wait.”

The Supercars next head to the Northern Territory for the Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway on June 19-21.
