Tyrepower Tasmania Supersprint Wrap Up
Another race weekend done and dusted! Overall it wasn’t a bad weekend – we had good pace and a few good results – averaging in the top ten for the weekend.
After qualifying 8th for Sunday’s race and finishing 8th; I certainly would have liked to have finished a bit closer to the pointy end of the grid, we just didn’t have enough pace from start to finish and so we didn’t have much to battle with. We traded one thing for another in our setup and that hurt us. We maximised what we could, by having good pit stops and minimising mistakes and all we could manage was 8th.
We qualified 6th for Saturday’s race, it was just a shame we couldn’t quite seal the deal and just missed out on a podium, finishing 4th. We pitted a lot later than other cars so that we would have fresher tyres in the final stint, so it was impressive after re-joining the field in 7th, we were able to come home pretty strong and take home P4.
It was certainly interesting with the new qualifying format – which we will also see at next months round at Barbagallo Raceway, (before heading to Phillip Island). It was good to have the weekend formatted differently, giving everyone a chance and breaking up the field.
Looking at the Championship we are a lot closer to the lead, we are still in second but only trailing by 11 points so it’s very close. Consistency is key and we have the second most consistent car so we just need to work a little harder and we’ll be there.
Now to re- group before we head to the WD – 40 Phillip Island 500, April 20 – 22nd.
