Reynolds ready for round two at Reid Park

It was a mixed bag for David Reynolds at last weekend’s NTI Townsville 500, however the Penrite Racing star is confident his #26 Ford Mustang is fast enough to challenge for a podium this weekend.

Having qualified in the top 10 for both 250-kilometre races, the Kelly Grove Racing star recruit faced a DNF late in the Sunday race. Luckily his Penrite Racing crew were able to get his Mustang back on track to collect valuable Championship points.

“It was a really positive weekend for our team. I feel like we are close to having a set up that can win this weekend,” admitted Reynolds.

This weekend’s WD-40 Townsville SuperSprint reverts to short format sprint races, including three races over a two-day event. The round will feature a more traditional qualifying format, which suits Reynolds.

“I don’t mind the sprint formats and having back-to-back rounds suits me. I always love being up here and the mood within the team is positive too,” Reynolds said.

Reynolds currently sits in unfamiliar territory in the Championship standings outside the top 10. For the Penrite driver, it remains a motivating factor.

“Obviously it’s not where we want to be, however I’m mindful that we are still feeling our way. Do I feel the pressure? Yeah of course I do. What I can say is that we have some of the best people down pit lane in our team and I know that Todd (Kelly) and Stephen (Grove) are 100% focused on winning – it will come,” said Reynolds.

This weekend’s event marks six months since the 2017 Bathurst Champion joined the Kelly Grove Racing operation after his high profile split from Erebus motorsport. However the 36-year old isn’t looking back.

“Time flies when you’re having fun!” exclaimed Reynolds.

This weekend’s format will revert to a two day event, whilst the entertainment won’t stop either with a superb support card highlighted by the Dunlop Super 2 Series and Porsche Carrera Cup, plus the return of the crowd favourite Boost Mobile Super Trucks.

The Repco Supercars Championship WD-40 Townsville SuperSprint kicks off Saturday 17 July with live entertainment in the evening, as well as an array of special events.
