There’s no denying that all Supercars teams are on the hunt to bring home some silverware at the end of each event, however; if you’re within the Team 18 circle, it’s a common talking point that they’re eager to fill their dedicated trophy cabinet that sits proudly at their Melbourne-based headquarters.

This weekend will see the Repco Supercars race at the NTI Townsville 500, 5-6 July and Team 18 driver, David Reynolds is eager to get back behind the wheel after a successful weekend in Darwin.

David talks about the up-and-coming weekend:

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend. Townsville is always good fun and it’s always good to get away from the Melbourne weather and get some sunshine,” said Reynolds.

“There’s two 250km races, one Saturday and one Sunday – 88laps each.

“It’s a very hard track, with big curbs and the walls are very close, which makes it hard to do fast laps. It’s mentally tough and we must make sure that we’re always concentrating. It can be pretty messy if you make a mistake!

“There’s a compulsory fuel drop of 100Litres, with two pit stops; sometimes three depending on strategy and how good your car is or how bad the track is – vice versa.

“It’s one of the worst tracks for tyre degradation. So, managing tyres will be key.

“This weekend will also see a change on the minimum tyre psi. Last year it was 17psi, this year it’s 15 psi. And we’re also back on the soft tyre, last round it was the super soft tyre. So, we’re going to have to change our set up a little.

“We took lots away from the Winton test prior to Darwin, so we’ll look at those stats as well as Darwin and hopefully we can carry it across.

“I’ve had some success there in the past and qualified pretty well. However, you can qualify well there, but you’ve got to have your car set up right for the longer races. So, we’ll be doing everything we can to make those tyres last.

“I do love this track though. It’s lots of fun and there’s always lots of action.

“Hopefully we can have a good one this weekend. I’ll be chasing that silverware!”

The Repco Supercars take to the track on Friday 5th July for practice 1 at 12:15pm local time. Check the on-track timing here.
