Well… what a weekend that was!! ‘The Bend’ sure proved to be a handful.
At the start of the weekend, we rolled out for practice and were pretty happy. It was our first time on the track and our cars weren’t too badly balanced. However, over the next few sessions we seemed to have gotten slower and slower and we got a bit lost!
Saturday’s qualifying, we qualified 17th – which was pretty disappointing for us… we like to be up the front!
In the race, I got a really good start and was battling it out with those in 15th, which wasn’t ideal. I then did the silliest thing during the pit stop; I didn’t have the car in gear when they dropped me and I lost about 4-seconds trying to put it into first gear – which was very amateur hour! We ended up P17 and let’s just say, we learnt a lot!
The following day, both Anton (my teammate) and I went two completely different ways for set up, however we ended up pretty close together in qualifying. I qualified P12 ahead of Sunday’s 200km race and was stoked to have brought it home in P3!
I had some brilliant battles with people, passed a lot of people, the pit stops went fantastically – my car was just magical. To start 12th and finish 3rd, was just awesome. The crew were fantastic and my engineer did such a great job with the set up – I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
The next few rounds that we go to are the start of the endurance campaign – Sandown, Bathurst and Gold Coast! Looking forward to getting out there with my co-driver, Luke Youlden; I really enjoy driving with him, so I can’t wait to get back out there and see what we can do!
