David Reynolds – Vodafone Gold Coast 600 Wrap Up

What a great weekend around the streets of Surfers! Awesome to come away with a surfboard. It was definitely a much-needed team booster! They have been working so hard and it was great to finally be able to reward everyone.

The weekend started off not too bad, we spent a lot of practice getting a feel for the track and setting up the car. It was great to be able to offer Luke some extra laps in practice 1 and we ended the day feeling reasonably comfortable with the car.

It was straight into qualifying Saturday, where we didn’t have our best run; although it was enough to put us into the Top Ten Shootout. We managed to pick up a couple of spots and started the race in P7.

Luke started the race and held onto position for a little, until too many hits of the curbs and tyre bundles damaged the front splitter, which left us to scramble into the pits and fix the front of the car. Unfortunately, from there it was difficult to build on track position being some laps down, so we had to settle for P22.

Sunday, we qualified in P9 again and went better in the Top Ten Shootout, finishing fourth. Luke started the race again and managed to get a great start and also kept the car out of any carnage. The car was handed over in great condition, with great tyre life and I was able to cross the line in third! It was just what the team needed after a hard few weeks and everyone did such a fantastic job!

Looking forward to getting back out there again for the Penrite Oil Sandown 500, 8 -10 November.
