David Reynolds – Tyrepower Tasmania Supersprint Wrap Up

Well it wasn’t a bad weekend at all in Tassie!

I was a little nervous as to how the new parc- ferme rule was going to pan out; but it made for some good racing and certainly mixed up the field which was good.

The entire weekend, we managed to stay within the top 10; which was really great and a fantastic effort by the team.

Friday’s practice sessions were impressive, from rolling out of the truck, Luke was pretty fast which continued into the first practice session for myself. I managed to finish 5th for practice 1, although I did stuff up one of my runs and lost a bit of time. The second practice session I managed to go two better and finished up P3.

Saturday’s practice 3 was impressive, the team did a great job making some slight changes overnight where I brought it home in 2nd.

From Friday’s results; this pushed us through to Qualifying part 2; where I finished 5th to set us up for Race 7. I do think we could have been a little higher up in qualifying as I missed my last tyre run, which was the last tyre set I needed to find a tenth and put myself on the front row, which I think my car was definitely good enough for. Race 7, I managed to get a great start and made a few passes; however, the pit stop let us down a little and instead of having a 5-second stop, it was 11-seconds which cost us some time and put me in 6th position; which is ultimately where I finished up.

Sunday’s practice 4 saw me finish up 5th; advancing me through to the second Qualifying session, where I was able to put us in a great position ahead of Race 8 in P3. I got an average start in the race, it was a bit damp and I got too much wheel spin, but I had reasonable pace. We stayed out long, had an almost perfect strategy and really good pit stops – I don’t think we could have done anything better. I had a great battle with Fabian (Coulthard) and I made a pass, but I got hung out wide around the last corner and toasted the rear tyre and after that the car wasn’t the same and he unfortunately passed. However, I am stoked that I was able to bring it home in 3rd and finally step up on that podium again! It was a great feeling!

A quick turnaround now, before we head to Phillip Island for round 5, April 12 – 14th.

Hope to see you there!
