Well it’s onto The Bend Motorsport Park this weekend for the 11th round of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. We are making history as we head to South Australia twice in the season for the first time in over 40 years.
The entire track length is 7.7km, however this weekend we will be racing on what they call the ‘International Circuit’, which is 4.95km in length and has 18 corners in total. The surface is high grip and the track condition is very good, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do around there!
I was lucky enough to have a spin around The Bend earlier in the year in a GT car and managed to pull the fastest lap record there – so that’s pretty cool! I shouldn’t mention that I got lost about three times on average each lap (we did the whole 7.7km), I had no idea where I was going. The corners are quite long and seem to turn forever and because it’s not built around anything – there’s no reference point to get an idea of where you are on the track, so it’s quite challenging.
The facilities are super impressive and the circuit is world class. I’m really looking forward to this weekend and looking forward to something new!
I’m currently sitting 5th in the Championship, -549 points from the lead, so I’m determined to have a solid weekend and keep clawing my way up the ladder.
The format will see three practice sessions, two qualifying sessions, Saturday’s 24-lap race and Sunday’s race with 41-laps. Practice 1 kicks off on Friday 24th August at 11:15am.
Hope to see you at The Bend this weekend!
