Well, we definitely didn’t end the PIRTEK Endurance Cup the way in which we had hoped for! The Sandown 500 proved to be a bit of a mixed weekend really!
Friday’s practice sessions we rolled out pretty strong. Luke managed an 8th and 14th in his two sessions and I was able to set the fastest lap with a 1:07.7779 and bring it home in P1 for my practice stint.
Come qualifying, I crossed the line in P8 in wet conditions – which is where Luke would start for the co-driver race. Luke did a fantastic job in his 60km sprint, moving up a spot and finishing 7th!
I then started the second 60km sprint race from P7 and managed to push through the tricky weather conditions and was awarded a podium for 3rd! The car seemed to go really well in both the wet and dry conditions, so I was confident of a successful day come Sunday’s 500km race as the car felt fast.
Luke started the big 500km enduro on Sunday and unfortunately was faced with a sticky racing incident, where he was trying to pass Wood who was also trying to pass the car in front of him. It didn’t go so well, and they spun each other out. Unfortunately, there was too much damage to the car and we had to retire from the race.
A big thanks to the crew for all their efforts over the weekend. Also, a big thanks to Luke – we had some highs and we had some lows through the enduro campaign, but that’s the joy of Motorsport I suppose!
