The Sandown retro round is definitely one of my favourites on the calendar. I have always said that I should have been born in the retro era.
It’s always fun going back in time and seeing what everyone comes up with for their retro liveries. This year, we have honoured the great Jim Richards in his JPS backed BMW from 1982-87. Jim had a really successful six years in these colours, so hopefully it’s a great omen and we can have a positive weekend!
Sandown last year we had a pretty strong round, claiming second on Saturday and pole on Sunday. The weather conditions were pretty tough last year, so hopefully this weekend the weather holds off and is a bit nicer to us. It’s a tough track in the wet, the surface is quite old and therefore bumpy.
The circuit length is 3.10km and the average speed is about 165km/h with a top speed of 270km/h. The fastest part of the track being the back straight heading into turn six, which is commonly known as, Dandenong Road.
I’m currently fifth in the Championship, so I’ll be looking to grab some more points!
Hope to see you there!
