Unfortunately, we just weren’t able to piece it all together this weekend! The Bend certainly wasn’t what it was last year.
Friday, we came out firing. Our co-drivers had a great practice session, before both Anton and I jumped in for our practice session where we pulled some quick laps and were the fastest Holden’s, which ultimately put us straight into qualifying 2.
Saturday was a bit of a mixed day, qualifying wasn’t the greatest. Anton and I had completely different set ups for the qualifying session and his turned out to be much faster; so we ended up plugging that into my car for the race. After starting from P12, I managed to pick up some spots and moved forward, finishing 7th which was a positive. Anytime you go forward in a race you’re happy. It’s just a shame that we didn’t have that set up for qualifying, because I might have had a better day over all. It was great to see Anton claim a podium though. The other positive to take away from the day was that I set the fastest lap during that session, with a 1:49.4042 which was a nice finish for the day.
Unfortunately, Sunday just didn’t go my way. I was unable to make use of the tyres in qualifying and could only manage 15th. I managed to pick up two spots come the race and finished up P13. Obviously though, it’s not quite where I wanted to finish. At the end of the day, we just weren’t fast enough and it wasn’t our weekend to be had.
Still plenty of positives to take away from the weekend though. The crew adapted well and threw plenty of different set up options at us and of course Anton claimed a podium, which was awesome!
We head to Pukekohe next and I love that track, it’s really good fun. I’ve won a few races there before and been on the podium also. I hope we can go there with a fast car and start moving back up the ladder in the back part of the year.
