It was an absolutely fantastic weekend in Newcastle for the final round of the 2018 Supercars Championship! It has probably been one of the best endings we’ve had at Erebus Motorsport and I can’t thank the team enough for all their support and efforts throughout the year!
Friday’s practice sessions, we rolled out pretty pacey and ended up third and eighth for the two sessions. Saturday, we ended up 7th in the qualifying session, but we had a mega strategy and a fast car over the race distance and ended up 3rd. Although, we ultimately ended in P2 after a penalty to Van Gis.
But Sunday is what took the cake! We rolled out 3rd for the qualifying session and then made the shoot-out. It was probably one of the hardest shoot-outs I’ve done for the year; as it’s a very short lap, so it’s very hard to get your tyres up to temperature. I was stoked to have done one of the best laps that I’ve ever done around this circuit and scored Pole position, which was awesome!
I was then able to convert that into a win for Sunday’s final race which was just a fantastic result; we had an almost perfect day. I couldn’t have asked for any more from the crew, we’ve had such a fantastic year and I’m glad it’s all over. We’ve had such a long season and everyone’s knackered, so I’m really looking forward to the off-season.
Hopefully we can come back really strong next year and have a crack at the Championship!
A massive thanks to all my sponsors and supporters for your backing throughout the year – it means a lot!!
