David Reynolds – AGP Wrap Up

Round 2 of the Virgin Australian Championship proved to be a mixed weekend in Melbourne; although with plenty of positives to take away.

Thursday’s practice sessions went relatively well, we ran two sets of greens in the last practice and ended up the fastest Holden in P5, which was a great effort.

Qualifying for race 3 was up next and the car was handling differently than expected straight out of the gate. The first session I ended up P13 and admittedly, I made a mistake and we should have been 8th or 9th– so I gave away a little bit there. The second qualifying session was a lot better for me, where I qualified P7.

Friday’s race 3, I started on the grid in P13 and managed to pick up a few spots before the first corner; where I sat 9th. I then got shuffled back at the outside of Turn 3 however, managed to take back a few spots in the final three laps; where I was able to finish up P10.

Saturday rolled on and race 4 I managed to hold my starting position – 7th; with a quick 13-lapper there wasn’t much action from start to finish.

Race 5 was 25-laps and proved to be more eventful. I managed to get an awesome start and elevated from 9th to 4thin a matter of seconds. After pitting, I picked up a spot with four new tyres and a splash of fuel; where I re-joined just ahead of Fabian Coulthard. After a Safety Car was issued; the pack was brought together and after the re start, Chaz passed me on soft tyres while I was on hard tyres. Unfortunately, I just missed out on a podium and brought it home 4th.

Sunday was a short race, a quick 13-lapper with no pit stops; which actually got shortened to 11 laps, while in fact less than that were racing laps due to Safety Cars. I didn’t think I got the best start, I got a whole lot of wheel spin, but I still managed to make up two spots at the start through car placement. I had a good race, I got past Holdsworth and Van Gisbergen, although my car was probably handling better yesterday, so it was good to still be able to make some moves. I finished the day P8.

Over all it was a pretty good weekend, the team did a mega job and continued to make improvements throughout the weekend – I couldn’t have asked for much more!

Next stop, Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint 5-7 April.

Hope to see you there!
