It is that time of year again – time to tackle the big old Mountain.
The lead-up to this point has been pretty cruisy, but today it has kicked up into a whole new gear. I’ve been booked out all day from 8.00am and the appearances, media interviews and such will continue until around 10.00pm tonight.
It isn’t ideal to be so busy before an event, especially one as demanding as the 1000, but you gotta do what you gotta do, especially at this place: Bathurst is just one of those events where the excitement is so high, and you are in high demand!
After today’s big last day of pre-event stuff, I am really looking forward to getting into practice tomorrow – we will have a couple of sessions and should be able to really get into it and, hopefully, find out where our car is on the 2016 tyre (which is being used this weekend) ahead of qualifying on Friday.
I have been asked a few times about whether there is extra pressure heading into a weekend like this. Obviously it is a special event, but I don’t think there is really any extra pressure – it is just a really, really good weekend if you love motorsport. For us driver, we just want to be a part of the history, and hopefully make a bit of history ourselves! If you can win this race, you kind of become a legend forever, and that is pretty cool.
I have a few favourite moments around this place already, like coming 2nd in 2012 and being on pole in 2015…hopefully we can add some more favourites to the list this weekend, and maybe even a win 😉
See you at the track!
